about alpine counseling

Hi - I'm Kim Martin, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Kim is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a graduate of the Oregon State Counseling program. Kim is the founder of Alpine Counseling and specializes in working with children, adolescents, couples and families. Kim has extensive training in perinatal mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, infant attachment, couples and parenting issues.

Kim believes in the power of the individual. Kim takes a compassionate, non-judgemental and empathetic approach to therapy. Kim sees people as growing and moving towards their authentic self to maximize their potential. Her approach in counseling is humanistic and client-centered. To be of the best service to the individual, couple and/or family, she will help them realize their own potential. She will facilitate a relationship that fosters clients' autonomy as they create goals that fit their values and worldview.

Kim's counseling approach will honor the balance between emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions and how that shapes the individual's unique perspective. She believes people change when they are empowered and believe in their own strengths.

Kim is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Perinatal Mood Disorders, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and working toward certification in the PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy) Method.

She recognizes the impact and stress of bringing home a new baby and of the postpartum period on couples and families. She has expertise in child development and highlights the importance of a secure relationship between parent and child. Kim's training in directive play therapy facilitates her work with children and the bond between parent and child. She is also a gifted couple and family therapist who welcomes working with couples and families who are experiencing challenging times. Kim values helping each family member find their voice and work toward collaborative and healing relationships.

Kim provides consultation to community members, and providers, around the issues of perinatal mood disorders, family and blended family dynamics and issues related to social and peer relationships for adolescents.

Linnetta Cooley, LCSW, RPT

Linnetta is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Art in Psychology and a Master of Social Work both from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Although Linnetta specializes in and is passionate about working with children and families, she also relishes the opportunity to work with persons of all ages. Linnetta's career path as a therapist was profoundly impacted during the period in which she provided therapy to children and families involved in the foster care system. Her desire to provide the best care possible drove her training into what is now a passion to understand how trauma and early childhood experiences shape resilience and our ability to navigate the world and its complexities across our lifespan.

Unconditional empathy and understanding are rare in this world, and yet we all need both. Linnetta recognizes change is difficult but believes people have a strength and the ability greater than they realize to move through difficult times and heal. Her goal is to cultivate a supportive and healing environment in which clients feel seen, secure, and protected. She focuses on a person's potential and not problematic behaviors. Her approach provides the space for individuals to step into a growth mindset, gain insight, belief in themself, and opportunity to appreciate their uniqueness.

While eclectic, Linnetta's integrative approach to therapy is customized to each client. Linnetta utilizes a variety of modalities including person-centered, Humanistic, trauma focused, attachment-based, play therapy, mindfulness, sand tray, and many forms of expressive therapies (art, music, drama, sensory focused, etc.). Each modality interwoven and adapted to match the changing needs of clients throughout the therapeutic process.

In addition to her specialized training in play therapy, Linnetta has training in early childhood development (ECH) and treatment of attachment and trauma related ECH mental health concerns. She also has over 40 years of experience working with neurodivergent individuals.

Life can feel overwhelming, and parenting is a TOUGH job. Linnetta is here to help support you and your family while navigating life's challenges! She provides a safe space to work through feelings and create positive change.
